How do you to get ready for arbitration? What do you call the arbitrator? Do you sit or stand when the arbitrator comes into the room? These are just some of the “comfort” questions that will be addressed during the Introduction to Arbitration seminar on October 22 in Edmonton and October 23 in Calgary.

The program Chair is Jim McCartney of McCartney ADR, who is a chartered mediator and chartered arbitrator. His extensive experience over the past 14 years with over 100 arbitration appointments gives him the breadth of knowledge needed to provide valuable information on arbitration.

Jim will act as the host in a talk show format with faculty members Elaine Selfert QC, Bryan Duguid, and Janine Watson appearing as the guests. The objective is to provide practical answers about the arbitration process in a setting informal enough for participants to feel comfortable asking all their questions.

“There will be lots of relaxed interaction among the presenters and with the audience,” explains Jim.  “I expect that no one will leave with unanswered questions.”

The key topics of the Introduction to Arbitration seminar are:

  • pros and cons of using arbitration
  • how to get the most bang for the buck
  • process and procedure tips so new users are comfortable in their first arbitration
  • things to do or avoid
  • appeal and enforcement of awards

By the end of the seminar, it will be clear to attendees how they can use the flexibility of arbitration to get a quick and economical result.
