LESA Partnership with CLC

We are excited to announce a partnership with Community Legal Clinic (CLC) this year. As their tagline, “Bringing Access to Justice to Rural Alberta” suggests, the CLC is dedicated to connecting lawyers to those in need of legal services throughout central Alberta.

Volunteer Opportunities with the CLC

Summary Legal Advice Clinics

Volunteers provide 30-45 minutes of summary legal advice to 3-4 pre-screened clients throughout each 2-hour clinic (with a preview for conflict check and a summary of the legal issue). Clients are matched to the volunteer’s preferred area(s) of practice.

Clinics by remote appointments are available throughout Alberta during the day and in the evening from 5–7 PM on weekdays. In-person appointments are available in Red Deer during office hours Monday to Friday 8:30 AM—4:30 PM.

Ask-A-Lawyer

A walk-in “Ask-A-Lawyer” event occurs on the third Monday of every month at the Dawe Public Library in Red Deer from 5–7 PM.

Other Opportunities

CLC also offers Roadshow events in-person throughout central Alberta including a walk-in “Ask-A-Lawyer” clinic, a legal topic workshop, and an affidavit Photo-ID clinic.

How Can I Volunteer?

If you are interested volunteering for CLC, send an email to [email protected] to register. Family and Criminal Law, in particular, are in very high demand. CLC is flexible in creating a schedule that suits each volunteer’s needs.  CLC is an Approved Legal Service Provider with the Law Society of Alberta.

LESA x CLC Partnership

LESA is pleased to offer volunteer lawyers who fulfill their CLC volunteer commitment free continuing legal education as a thank you for giving back to the Alberta legal profession. Volunteers who fill their CLC volunteer commitment (12 x 2-hour shifts (24 hours) in the 2023 calendar year) are eligible for a free LESA webinar (up to $95).
