If you’re a family law practitioner, LESA has an upcoming event just for you: the Child Support seminar.

CalgaryNovember 19 and EdmontonNovember 26

This seminar offers a summary of the Divorce Act, and, as seminar faculty member Tina Huizinga explained to LESA, the discussion of sections 4, 7, and 9 will be particularly useful, since these sections tend to be underutilized by practitioners.

When asked what practitioners will gain from this seminar, Huizinga emphasized the fact it that provides “very up-to-date” information with its discussion of recent cases, including some from 2014. With a lawyer’s busy schedule, studying current cases can be something that falls by the wayside. Recognizing this, Huizinga sees this seminar as a useful tool for staying informed, saying that it will provide “a nice summary of where things are at right now.”

Six topics will be covered at this seminar, including Huizinga’s talks on child support issues related to incomes over $150K and shared custody arrangements. She will examine how these issues have been treated recently in court and will also discuss what factors of evidence you need to consider when bringing forward an application.

As Huizinga puts it, “if you practice full time family law, this is the stuff everyone should know but often doesn’t.”

Take advantage of this opportunity to refresh what you know and learn something new. Register online now to attend this seminar in Edmonton or Calgary.
