The Supreme Court of Canada will continue its tradition to hold a welcome ceremony for its newest member, the Honourable Mary T. Moreau.
Justice Moreau was born in Edmonton and completed her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. As a lawyer, she litigated several foundational cases involving the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and minority language rights. Justice Moreau practiced primarily in constitutional law, civil litigation, and criminal law.
In 1994, she was appointed Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta. In 1996, she was appointed a Deputy Judge of the Supreme Court of Yukon, and of the Supreme Court of the Northwest Territories in 2005. In 2017, she was appointed Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta. On November 6, 2023, she was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada.[1]
The ceremony will be held on Monday, February 19 at 10:30 AM EST. It will be presided by the Right Honourable Richard Wagner, P.C, Chief Justice of Canada. The court invites members of the public to watch the live broadcast of the series.
