November marks the beginning of Hindu Heritage Month in Canada. Established in 2022, this month is an opportunity to celebrate the world’s oldest system of beliefs along with the accomplishments, doctrines, and contributions of the Hindu community to our culture and society.
November is a culturally and religiously significant month for the Hindu community, as Diwali is celebrated during this month, or in the month of October (depending on the cycle of the moon). Diwali is the largest festival in the Hindu community and marks the victory of good over evil. This year, it will be held from October 31, 2024 to November 1, 2024. Jainism and Sikhism also celebrate the Diwali, or “festival of lights”. Other festivals that are significant for the Hindu community that are celebrated during this time of year include Navratri and Durga Puja. The LESA team wishes the Hindu community a happy Hindu Heritage Month!
As we celebrate one another’s cultures, traditions, and histories, and as more and more workplaces develop anti-racism policies and look to shift their systems and culture, it is imperative that lawyers who handle employment, human rights, or workplace investigation matters stay up to date on the law and related practice. Our upcoming Anti-Racism in Employment law (Webinar) will explore relevant human rights jurisprudence and practical strategies relating to policies, employee training, and reporting systems through the lens of cognitive bias and theory.
