The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (“IDPD”) is dedicated to celebrating persons with diverse abilities, and to promoting their equal inclusion in all aspects of society. It was celebrated on December 3, 2024 and highlights the responsibility we have to better understand diverse abilities, and the systemic, physical, and attitudinal barriers people with disabilities face.
This year’s IDPD theme:
“Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.”
In the context of the legal profession, lawyers with diverse abilities bring an invaluable perspective to legal practice and offer different approaches to advocacy. As legal practitioners, it is important to recognize the ongoing responsibility we have to fight the stigma surrounding diverse abilities, and to foster accessible and inclusive environments in our practice.
