An Interview With the Chair of “Emerging Issues” From our Upcoming Refresher Course – Real Estate

Jason S. W. McCulloch, of Witten LLP is chairing our session entitled “Emerging Issues” at our upcoming 45th Annual Refresher Course–Real Estate. We chatted with Jason to bring to you further insight into what you can expect from this half-day session.

Jason was raised in Alberta and attended the University of Alberta for both his undergrad and Law degrees.  He is a partner at Witten LLP (which is the same firm he articled at 13 years ago).

Speaking throughout this session are Curtis D. Woollard and Jonathan Coombs. Curtis is a lawyer with the Alberta Government working at the Edmonton Land Titles office as the Director of Land Titles.  Jonathan is a partner with Witten LLP specializing in real estate and finance work.

When asked who would find this session useful and why, Jason states, “I think both junior and senior lawyers will enjoy our session as it has topics that are practical for day-to-day use, as well as having interesting intellectual/philosophical elements to them”.

Registrants can expect to walk away with a) a comprehensive understanding of the Land Titles Assurance fund; (b) benefits & pitfalls, from a practical perspective, of relying title insurance in real estate transactions; (c) a better understanding of technologies that can assist with day-to-day real estate practice.

Jason’s goal for this session is that participants will learn ways to be more efficient, while at the same time protecting both themselves and their clients and being mindful of the fiscal realities that face many real estate practioners.

This session will take place on Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM in Lake Louise.
