Alberta Human Rights Commissions: Indigenous Advisory Circle Call for Expressions of Interest

The Alberta Human Rights Commission (the “Commission”) has announced a call of interest for Inuit, First Nations, and Métis people to participate in their second annual Indigenous Advisory Circle (the “Circle”).

The intention behind the Circle is to provide Indigenous advice and perspectives to the Commission to address and reduce systemic discrimination against Indigenous people. The Commission seeks to cultivate and strengthen both new and existing relationships with Indigenous communities and organizations while ensuring meaningful and culturally relevant services, programs, and operations. Circle members will be selected with the following considerations:

  • Diversity of perspectives, including perspectives of urban, on/off reserve, rural, and on/off Settlement Indigenous Peoples
  • Different levels of experience and expertise in academic, business, community
  • Experience working within and/or navigating systems such as child & family services, labour/employment, housing/tenancy, seniors, education, and other social service systems
  • Lived experience as an Indigenous woman, 2SLGBTQIA person, or a person with a disability
