An Interview With the Chair of “Condominiums”

Heather Bonnycastle QC of McLeod & Company LLP is chairing our full-day program entitled  “Condominiums” on the Saturday of our upcoming 45th Annual Refresher Course–Real Estate. We chatted with Heather to bring to you further insight into what you can expect from this full-day seminar.

Heather was born in Edmonton, but came to Calgary at an early age. She graduated from the University of Calgary where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree. Following such she attended the University of Alberta Law School and received her LL.B.  She went to the University of London, England to complete her Master of Laws. Heather has practiced condominium and real estate law in Calgary since 1975 and received her Queen’s Counsel designation in 1996.

Speaking throughout this seminar are Victoria A. Archer, Craig R. Hill, Gordon E. Van Vliet, and Hugh Willis. Gordon Van Vliet is a Partner with Norton Rose (formerly Macleod Dixon). As a member of the Real Estate Group, Gordon, an experienced senior practitioner, focuses on all aspects of real estate matters including condominium and resort and hotel law. Craig Hill is a Partner with Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP. He is a very experienced senior real estate lawyer advising many developers on all aspects of condominium matters. Victoria Archer is a senior practitioner involved in all areas of condominium law with an emphasis on advising Boards of Directors of condominium corporations. Hugh Willis is a lawyer with Emery Jamieson LLP, Edmonton. He is an experienced practitioner in many aspects of business and condominium law, advising property managers, Boards of Directors, and developers from time to time.

Registrants can expect to walk away with a) better understanding of the basic concepts of condominium law; (b) a review of more complex condominium developments; (c) advice regarding recent developments from the courts in condominium law.

When asked who would find this session useful and why, Heather states, “Approximately one-half of all residential real estate in urban areas of Alberta is being developed as condominium ownership.  It is vital that anyone practising real estate must understand the complexities and nuances of condominium law.  Attendance at this seminar would enhance all aspects of a real estate practice”.

This seminar is occurring on Saturday, May 5th, 2012 from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM in Lake Louise.
