An Interview With the Chair of “Existing Residential Resale Part A” From our Upcoming Refresher Course – Real Estate

Lubos K. Pesta QC of Walsh Wilkins Creighton LLP is chairing our session on “Existing Residential Resale Part A” at our upcoming 45th Annual Refresher Course–Real Estate. We chatted with Lou to bring to you further insight into what you can expect from this half-day session.

Since his admission to the Alberta Bar in 1983, Lou has practiced almost exclusively in Real Estate Law and Mortgages as an associate and partner in law firms numbering from one to over one hundred lawyers. He has participated on numerous committees of the South Alberta Real Property Section over the past 25 years including the Builders’ Lien Act Repeal Committee; Title Insurance Committee; Rules of Practice for Real Property Reports Committee, and others.

Speaking throughout this session are Lisa M. Sabo of the Alberta Lawyers Insurance Association, Jocelyn A. Frazer of the Law Society of Alberta, and Douglas E. Ritzen or Ritzen Olivieri LLP. Lisa has a hands-on involvement with the management of negligence claims advanced against lawyers.  Her top ten errors list in residential conveyancing will set out specific red flags for industry members and lay the groundwork for the remainder of the session. As Practice Advisor, Jocelyn handles disputes between conveyancing lawyers on a day-to-day basis and will address the most frequent areas of dispute respecting trust conditions as well as reasonable positions to be taken. Douglas is an experienced and popular instructor who will target continuing Real Property Report issues head-on.

Registrants can expect to walk away with a) knowledge of what traps other lawyers have fallen into and how to avoid them; (b) a better understanding of the rationale for the terms of the Standard Residential Real Estate Purchase Contract; (c) tools to help minimize disputes with other lawyers.

When asked who would find this session useful and why, Lou states, “All lawyers involved in residential conveyancing will gain tools of trade to use on a day-to-day basis to help their transactions close more smoothly”. This session will benefit your practice by improving your efficiency and reducing stress by eliminating problem areas.

This session is occurring on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM in Lake Louise.
