Andrew G. Thorne, of Thorne & Thorne is chairing our session on “Taxes” at our upcoming 45th Annual Refresher Course–Real Estate. We chatted with Andrew to bring to you further insight into what you can expect from this half-day session.
Andrew has worked in Fort McMurray since 1998. His background is in accounting and tax law matters, prior to his move to Fort McMurray. Besides real estate, his practice includes a great deal of tax planning and organizing for businesses that involve real estate in almost every case.
Speaking throughout this session are Gary I. Biasini of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP, Michel H. Bourque of Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, and Jason M. Stephan of Warren Sinclair LLP. Gary practices tax law in Edmonton. Michel practices tax litigation and planning in Calgary. Jason is a tax lawyer and accountant who in the past few years moved from a larger city to Red Deer to practice tax law.
When asked who would find this session useful and why, Andrew states, “The basic real estate transaction can involve tax matters that may be unknown to the real estate practitioner. We do not intend on teaching lawyers how to practice tax law. Our intention is to familiarize them with the red flags so that they will know they have an issue that should be addressed”.
This session is occurring on Tuesday, May 8th, 2012 from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM in Lake Louise.
