Desk Divorces for Legal Support Staff is a must-attend seminar for any legal assistant involved in desk divorce procedures. Every detail will be covered including uncontested divorce procedure, joint divorce procedure, and the forms for divorce procedures.
Colleen Nicholls, Senior Program Coordinator for the Family Law Information section of Family Justice Services, is one of the presenters at the Desk Divorces seminar. With expertise in family law and plain language writing, her work involves in training staff to do the divorce reviews. She has also written the divorce instructions on the Alberta courts website.
Colleen believes the Desk Divorces seminar will be extremely beneficial to legal support staff.
“We know that the lawyers and assistants hate getting their divorces returned, and frankly, we hate it too! We know we seem to have a lot of strange and secret rules that we follow when we’re reviewing divorces. Hopefully, after taking this course, the assistants will understand how we think and will delight in having their divorces get signed first time, every time!”
One of the topics at the Desk Divorces seminar is called Problems and Tricky Bits. This session will be of particular interest to legal assistants as it will cover the unusual situation that most assistants would only run into once in their career.
“We’re going to cover all of them, so they should be ready to handle any problem.” explains Colleen.
