The Government of Canada has announced the appointment of the Honourable Kent H. Davidson as the new Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta.
Chief Justice Davidson received a Bachelor of Arts (Distinction) and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta. In 1983, he was called to the Alberta bar. He was appointed King’s Counsel in 2008.
In 2019, Chief Justice Davidson was appointed to the Court of King’s Bench. Prior to his appointment to the Bench, Chief Justice Davidson practiced in many areas of the law including commercial litigation, labour and employment, and criminal law. He practised at Lucas, Bishop, Bowker and White for 18 years before joining Miller Thomson LLP in 2001[1].
Chief Justice Davidson will be replacing the Honourable Mary T. Moreau, who was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada on November 6, 2023.. LESA wishes to thank Justice Moreau for her contributions to the Alberta legal profession as well as extend a warm congratulations to Chief Justice Davidson as he begins this new chapter.
