Lawyers! Did you know? We have a wonderful partnership with the Edmonton Community Legal Centre (ECLC) this year. Volunteers who complete twelve (2-hour) shifts with the ECLC within the 2023 calendar year are eligible for a free LESA webinar (up to $95).
ECLC provides opportunities for lawyers to volunteer their time in a number of ways to help those in the community who are experiencing financial barriers to access justice. The ECLC Legal Clinic is a flexible way for lawyers to contribute, affording both in-person and remote opportunities. In the clinic, volunteer lawyers provide 45 minutes of free legal advice to clients, who will be self-representing, in an effort to empower the client to move their legal matter forward in a meaningful way. One may often wonder: how impactful can 45 minutes be? ECLC does the work of collecting relevant documents, providing a brief summary of facts, all which is accessible to the lawyer 24 hours before the clinic appointment. This means that when meeting with a client, lawyers can focus on providing practical advice and steps to empower the client.
The commitment for the legal clinic is twelve (2-hour) shifts per year.
Volunteering not only meets the moral obligation lawyers have to give back to their community but it is a great way to build new skills and expand abilities. Those who fill their ECLC volunteer commitment (twelve x 2-hour shifts for the 2023 calendar year) are thanked with free registration in a LESA webinar of their choosing (up to $95).
