LESA has been working with the Law Society of Alberta on the development of a mandatory Principal Training Course. This course is now available for all Alberta lawyers. While this course is mandatory for lawyers who wish to take on the role of principal, those who are working in a supervisory role or serving in a mentorship role may also be interested.
This course consists of 8 self-directed lessons covering topics on Law Society and CPLED duties and requirements, how to be an effective mentor, dealing with difficult conversations, discrimination and harassment laws, cultural competency, and more.
The articling experience can significantly influence the trajectory of an articling student’s career. Establishing a good principal-articling student relationship and providing a supportive and enriching articling experience are very important to your articling student’s success. This training course is intended to provide all principals with the skills and tools necessary to successfully fulfil their role in the articling process.
