Volunteers are integral to the success of LESA programs. As we eagerly await the return of LESA’s Real Estate Conference (October 2024), we would like to thank and spotlight the chair of this year’s event, Jeffrey Kahane KC.
We recently reached out to Jeff to learn a bit more about him, his practice, and why he is inspired to volunteer at LESA.
Jeff has been practicing law in Calgary since 2001 and opened his full-service law office, Kahane Law Office in 2004. The firm has offices in both Calgary and Edmonton and employs around 50 people. Since 2004, Kahane Law Office has provided legal assistance on as many as 400 real estate transactions in a single month.
Jeff is also the first “non- CREB® member” to receive the Commitment to CREB® Award and is now also an Honorary Life Member for contributing to the real estate industry.
Jeff regularly volunteers his time, leadership, and teaching skills to many educational institutions, community enhancement organizations, family and child service organizations, and most recently Calgary Opera. His personal commitment to his community led to him being awarded the Alberta Centennial Medal.
Jeff has also been nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award and was featured in Business in Calgary magazine’s Leaders of Tomorrow.
More recently, Jeff was also recognized for his contributions in the profession and the community with his appointment as King’s Counsel.
Q&A
Q: Why should real estate practitioners attend this conference; what are the key takeaways?
A: Jeff noted that real estate practitioners should attend this conference to improve their level of knowledge, learn ways to ensure compliance with the Law Society of Alberta, and make connections within the bar.
“Making connections can lead to referrals and great friendships!”
Q: Why are conferences such as this beneficial to real estate practitioners?
A: Jeff shared that in the real estate industry, real estate lawyers can sometimes overlook the benefits of attending networking events with their peers.
“It is so important to get to know your fellow industry members. Connecting with other lawyers often leads to referrals (work that is in another city or where there is a conflict), leads to much better communication between lawyers on opposing sides of a matter to facilitate a better outcome for their clients, and it gives you a chance to meet people who will be willing to share perspectives, ideas, or bounce legal issues off of.”
Q: You are a long-time LESA supporter, and we are so grateful for your dedication of time and expertise. What do you like most about volunteering for LESA?
A: Jeff mentioned that he has a love for presenting and teaching, as well as staying engaged through the process of volunteering.
“The support from LESA; you guys make volunteering so easy!”
LESA greatly appreciates Jeff and his commitment as chair for LESA’s Real Estate Conference 2024 in beautiful Kananaskis. Find conference details below, with more information on topics and faculty on the registration page.
