Spotlight On: Estate Litigation – With Françoise Belzil

LESA’s upcoming estate litigation program is chaired by senior counsel at Biamonte Law, Françoise Belzil.

For the last thirty years, Françoise has enjoyed the practice of law. Her practice is primarily focused on estate law and estate-related matters. She is motivated by helping clients reach resolutions to challenging family disputes and in acting as a mediator for complex matters. She finds this process incredibly rewarding.

When asked what she enjoys most about volunteering for LESA, Françoise notes:

“Over the course of my career I have had the privilege of being mentored by many lawyers.  Volunteering for LESA is an opportunity to pay that mentorship forward.”

LESA’s upcoming program, “The Next Level: Elevating Your Practice in Estate Litigation” takes place in-person in Edmonton and online via livestream on April 25. As program chair, Françoise notes that this program is highly valuable for wills and estates practitioners and will provide insightful and practical materials. She goes on to say:

“I’m confident attendees will find more than just one take away that will permit them to reflect –“yes, that was worthwhile!”. Being a lawyer is a demanding career. Learning substantive law and experience are the two linked strands that make up the double helix of professional growth. Both are delivered in this program by a faculty whose collective experience is tremendous.”

This program will delve into the following unique aspects of estate litigation:

  • Interplay between family law and the Wills & Succession Act
  • Use of experts in estate litigation
  • Ways in which solicitors can become involved in estate litigation
  • Costs in estate litigation
  • Mediation/Arbitration in estate litigation

We invite you to join us on Thursday, April 25, 2024, from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM in Edmonton. If you live outside of Edmonton or prefer to participate remotely, this program is also being offered online via livestream.

Many thanks to Françoise Belzil along with Justice Robert A. Graesser, Tracy King, Gary Kirk, and Leslie Taylor for their work on this program, and for their contributions to LESA.
